Siding is installed over the vapor barrier. Proper siding installation is the first line of defense from exterior water intrusion. To hold the siding tightly in place we nail it directly to the framing/studs using the proper fasteners. The use of galvanized or stainless steel nails is recommended as other types of nails will rust and break over time. Stainless steel is the best choice for siding nails, which is what we prefer to use.

There are many kinds of siding such as cedar, fiber cement, aluminum, and vinyl which are the most popular. Each has its advantages and disadvantages.
